Amy Carmichael - Graylands Cat Clinic

Amy Carmichael

RVN, ISFM certFN

I have worked in mixed practice across the south since 2017 and qualified as an RVN in 2020. My experience consists of both first opinion work and out of hours emergency care, and I have a particular interest in diagnostic imaging. I began to pursue my interests in feline care in 2021 when I completed my certificate in Feline Nursing with the ISFM and am now thrilled to be a part of the Graylands team! I have a black cat of my own named Magnus, who I inherited as a stray from my first nursing job. Outside of work, I enjoy paddle-boarding and perfecting my sewing skills.

At home, Nicky is proudly ruled by her two gorgeous, fluffy white kitties who are the center of her world. When she’s not practicing veterinary medicine, she swaps her stethoscope for a camera, venturing into nature to photograph mushrooms—a hobby that often leaves her delightfully muddy.

In quieter moments, Nicky loves curling up with a good book, making the most of life’s simple joys.

Catherine Artso

Catherine Artso

RVN

I qualified in 2011 and have worked in mixed practice and referral. I have always felt it’s my responsibility to advocate for my patients, no matter how great or small. I take pride in treating each of them with the same care and attention I would my own pets. Over my career I have found that it just needs us as caregivers to take the time to understand patients’ needs, which is why I am so excited to join the Graylands team where this is the core ethos.
Outside of work I spend time, baking, gardening, walking my dogs and running around after my young son!

Cat & Client Care Assistants

Holly Spencer - Graylands Cat Clinic

Holly Spencer

CCA

My name is Holly and having worked with cats for the last three years, I am beyond excited to carry on my crazy cat lady journey as a CCA at Graylands Cat Clinic. I completed my degree in Animal Behaviour and Welfare, so these are areas in which I am particularly passionate! In my spare time I love hitting the local vintage shops, trying new vegan recipes and often go paddle boarding after work before coming home for cuddles with my two fur babies, Cookie and Penny.

Sarah Muggeridge - Graylands Cat Clinic

Sarah Muggeridge

CCA

Hi, I’m Sarah and I am pleased to have joined Graylands Cat Clinic as a Cat and Client Care Assistant.
I have recently left the NHS where I was a GP receptionist for 9 years. Previously I worked in sales and in another veterinary surgery. I believe in always greeting people with a smile and being as helpful as possible. I am a mum of 5 furbabies and 1 shelled baby (4 cats, 1 dog and 1 tortoise) and 2 adult children.
In my spare time I like to bake ( very badly !!), quilt, crochet, cross stitch, read and go camping.

Graylands Cat Clinic Is an ISFM Gold Cat Friendly Clinic

At the heart of our clinic lies a dedication to providing gold standard care. From the very inception of our clinic, our mission has been clear: to create a haven where cats receive the highest level of care and attention they deserve. We are immensely proud to announce that our commitment to excellence has been recognized with the prestigious ISFM Gold Cat Friendly Clinic accreditation.

What does this accreditation mean for your cat? It signifies more than just a seal of approval; it represents our dedication to creating a cat-friendly environment in every aspect of our practice. From the moment you and your feline friend step through our doors, you’ll notice the difference. Our facilities have been meticulously designed with your cat’s comfort and well-being in mind.

From soothing waiting areas equipped with cozy hideaways to examination rooms equipped with feline-friendly furniture, every detail has been carefully curated to ensure a stress-free experience for your cat. Our team has undergone specialized training to understand the unique needs and behaviours of cats, allowing us to provide gentle and compassionate care tailored to their individual preferences.

But our commitment to cat-friendly care doesn’t stop there. We prioritize gentle handling techniques, low-stress handling protocols, and pheromone therapy to create a calming atmosphere for our feline patients. Whether your cat is visiting us for a routine check-up, vaccinations, or a more complex medical issue, you can rest assured knowing that they are in caring and capable hands.

At our ISFM Gold Cat Friendly Clinic, we believe that every cat deserves the best possible care. We strive to not only meet but exceed the highest standards of feline medicine, ensuring that your furry friend receives the quality of care they deserve.

Graylands is a Zero Pain Practice

Graylands Cat Clinic is a Zero Pain Practice

We are thrilled to announce that we’ve achieved certification as a Zero Pain Practice!

Not only are we the FIRST EVER first opinion practice globally to earn this, but we’re also proud to be the FIRST Cat Only Clinic to qualify!

What does this mean for your beloved feline? It confirms our dedication to their comfort and well-being.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Multimodal Pain Relief,
  • Routine Pain Scoring,
  • Pre-emptive Analgesia,
  • Complimentary Pain Treatments,
  • Cat-Friendly Techniques & Environment,
  • Staying Ahead with Research.

Cats can’t vocalize their pain, relying on subtle cues that may go unnoticed. It’s our responsibility to recognize these signs and provide them with the necessary treatment for their comfort and well-being.

Your cat’s welfare is our priority, and this certification underscores our commitment to their care.

Scruff free clinic

Graylands Cat Clinic Scruff Free Pledge

The ‘Scruffing’ of a cat is a term used to describe restraining a cat by firmly gripping the loose skin at the back of the cat’s neck – this is sometimes accompanied by lifting the cat up or heavily restraining the cat in other ways.

When being handled by people in an unfamiliar setting, cats will almost always be stressed. This is because cats are a territorial species, and so being taken out of their territory and placed into an unfamiliar environment is a great source of stress to them. Furthermore, they may associate the setting (eg, a veterinary clinic) with previous unpleasant experiences.

There are many different ways of handling and restraining cats that do not involve scruffing or heavy restraint, and as an accredited Gold Cat Friendly Clinic we will always use those. These cat-friendly methods take a ‘less is more’ approach, and enable a cat to maintain some sense of control over the situation, which will not only improve the cat’s wellbeing but also achieve better results for the person wishing to restrain the cat.
